Confidence

It is of utmost importance for an individual to feel like they have confidence in every area of life, but especially in their daily activities. Being able to accomplish tasks that support your daily leaving is a big factor in having self- esteem and self-esteem is a big factor in someone’s healing process. There is a pyramid that represents levels of confidence. At the very bottom of the hierarchy, it is bed mobility. Next is followed by mat transfers, wheelchair transfers, bed transfers, functional ambulatory for activities of daily living, toilet and tub transfers, car transfer, functional ambulation for community mobility, community mobility and driving. I do agree with the particular hierarchy because it allows patients to increase their mobility at seemingly sensible phases. If they jumped from bed mobility to toileting, it might put strain on their body that they couldn’t handle. When I shadowed at a nursing home, this is the hierarchy I observed. Though some patients were not compliant with the hierarchy and wanted to jump right back into driving, for the most part, the patients at the nursing home followed this pyramid to the T and even agreed with the progression it took. In labs, I’ve learned that taking it step by step is key and you can’t just go to step ten after only getting through step one, no matter how confident you or the patient is.
