A small exercise that happens to be a part of my daily routine is 15 push-ups every time before I get in the shower. The start position is in an extended plank. The end position is with arms at ninety degree while lowering yourself to the ground. The shoulder action is in the transverse plane and the elbow action occurs in the sagittal plane. The shoulder action is along the transverse axis and the elbow is along the frontal axis. The osteokinematics of the elbow joint when in a push-up from the start position is extension and the ending position is flexion. This is a hinge joint. The arthrokinematics of the elbow joint in a push-up is between the ulna and humerus and produces a sliding movement. The prime mover of a push-up is pectoralis major. Two types of activations come into play with a push-up. When you're lowering yourself to the floor, the muscles are contracting eccentrically. When you're pushing your body back up, the muscles are contracting concentrically.
