Internal Locus of Control
The idea of locus of control is so interesting to me. It basically boils down to who or what is in control. I think, to a certain extent, that both internal and external locusts of control are possible. And in many cases, depending on the person, both exist simultaneously.
I like to think of it in relationship to my faith. I'm a christian and firmly believe that the Lord is ultimately in control. I have trust in Him and His promises - that no matter what happens, I know He is sovereign. That, in a sense, leans towards the idea of external locus of control. I agree with that somewhat because sometimes there are events that happen that are in no way in one's control. Terrible things happen to innocent people every single day. Do I think God made those things happen? No. Do I think God allowed it to happen? Yes. We, as christians, are not promised an easy life. It says in the Bible that we will face trials of many kinds. So, I know that I will struggle and bad things might happen to me that I may have zero control over. But, on the flip side, God also gave us the gift of free will. We are able to make a choice at every decision we're presented with. That is internal locus of control. It's the "I can make things happen" idea. Good choices often take you good places and vice versa.
That's just a picture that I like to paint myself when thinking about locus of control. I am very glad to have the internal locus of control because that comes from a place of confidence and can foster a go-getter mindset.
